The club, now entering its second year, recognizes freshmen who earn a 100 percent SOL pass rate and encourages continued success through a tiered system of rewards:
Sophomores: Commemorative t-shirt.
Juniors: Free pass to all school athletic events.
Seniors: Free school parking pass and complimentary athletic pass.
Membership is evaluated annually based on a student’s cumulative SOL pass rate. Students can join in any year, and those who qualify later through retakes will receive recognition for the year they initially missed. This structure rewards both immediate achievement and perseverance to complete all SOLs by senior year.
“We are proud of the success of the Alleghany Cougars Scholars Club and are excited to continue this tradition,” said Principal Derek Cantrell. “This club is more than just an honor; it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students. By celebrating these achievements, we can motivate our students to continue to succeed and prepare them for a bright future.”
For students like Hannah Hensley, a senior, the program reinforces the value of hard work and fosters a culture of excellence that extends beyond Alleghany High School.
