Stull Has Key Role in Overseeing AHPS Network And Security

LOW MOOR — Joey Stull has the important task of overseeing the network and security of the Alleghany Highlands Public Schools Division's computer network system.

After serving for more than five years as a technology support specialist, the school board recently appointed Stull as the division’s network and security administrator. He was originally hired by Alleghany County Public Schools in 2017 as a technology support specialist. He continued in that role after Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Public Schools, and Jackson River Technical Center merged last July to form AHPS.

As the network and security administrator, Stull is in charge of monitoring all aspects of the school division’s computer network including security.  He also has key input on expenditures aimed at increasing network functionality and security. He reports to Dr. Shannon Fuhrman, the school division’s director of technology and accountability. Stull’s position is not that of an “added” central office staff member. His new job title represents a consolidation of positions in the technology office.

“We are exceedingly fortunate to have Mr. Stull’s technology knowledge on our team — particularly his knowledge of cybersecurity,” said Kim Halterman and Melinda Snead-Johnson, leaders of AHPS.  “Even better, Mr. Stull has a can-do attitude and he helps us all solve day-to-day information technology problems with a dose of good humor, supporting us all in our ability to work as a team.”

Stull graduated from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (Mountain Gateway Community College) in 2014 with an associate’s degree in information systems technology. He graduated magna cum laude.

In 2020, he received a bachelor’s degree from Southern New Hampshire University, graduating cum laude. His degree is in information technology with a concentration in cybersecurity.

Prior to joining Alleghany County Public Schools, Stull owned and operated Bits N’ Bytes Computer Repair LLC on Main Street in Clifton Forge. As the lead technician for the business, he helped maintain and repair computers and mobile devices for customers.

Alleghany Highlands Public Schools serves approximately 2,700 students in Alleghany County and the City of Covington. The school division is jointly funded and operated by each locality.  AHPS activities can be “followed” on Facebook at @AHPublicSchools.
