Title:

Director of Elementary Instruction

 

 

Primary Function:

To provide oversight of all regular education instructional programs and curriculum development.

 

 

Qualifications:

Hold a Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in administration or supervision.

 

Have a minimum of five years of experience in public education, two of which are in administration.

 

Possess professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community at large.

Performance Responsibilities:

 

 

 

 

1.Provide oversight of the implementation, development and publication of the local curriculum.

2.Provide oversight of the implementation of the Virginia Standards of Learning.

3.Report to the School Board regrading State and Federal Accreditation.

4.Provide leadership for a system of strategic planning for the purposes of school improvement that includes the interpretation of data, the development of a continuous school improvement plan, and monitoring school progress.

5.Provide leadership for the division’s assessment program serving as the Division Director of Testing (DDOT).

6.Provide oversight of all federal programs with the exception of special education and CTE.

7.Provide oversight of the division’s reading program.

8.Provide oversight of the Phonological Awareness and Literacy Screening (PALS) program.

9.Coordinate the division’s Spelling Bee.

10.Provide oversight of the Kindergarten orientation program.

11.Provide oversight of the Virginia Preschool Initiative Program.

12.Coordinate the division’s mentoring program.

13.Assist with coordination of professional development for instructional personnel.

14.Coordinate programs for gifted and talented students.

15.Coordinate the development of the academic calendar.

16.Coordinate the division staff plan based upon pupil enrollment and instructional requirements.

17.Provide oversight of the implementation of all remedial programs, including summer school.

18.Develop memoranda of agreements for outsourced instructional programs, including software or other technology platforms.

19.Serve as the public relations contact on matters of instruction.

 

20.Serve as the compliance officer in cases involving sexual and/or racial harassment.

 

21.Participate in district level advisory committees.

 

22.Serve as a member of the budget development committee.

 

23.Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

 

 

Terms of Employment:

Twelve-month contract with salary to be established annually by the school board.

 

 

Evaluation:

In accordance with school board policy and the administrative regulations and evaluation of administrative personnel.
