Director of Finance



Primary Function:

To supervise the financial affairs of the school division.




Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with courses in business, management, accounting, and finance.


Have a minimum of five years of experience in financial record keeping and financial administration, organizational/business management, and personnel administration.


Possess such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Administrative Assistant for Division Support









1.Assume responsibility for an account procedure adequate to record in detail all financial transactions.

2.Arrange for the auditing of all district accounts.

3.Assumes responsibility for budget development, control, and long range financial planning including the development of the annual student enrollment projections.


4.Advise the superintendent on all questions relating to all business and financial affairs.


5.Submit monthly statements to all directors detailing the status of financial accounts.


6.Prepare financial reports as required by all agencies having jurisdiction over school funds.


7.Prepare and implement staff development associated with budget and finance.


8.Prepare and implement staff development associated with grant acquisition.


9.Provide oversight for ledger management.


10.Provide oversight for all reimbursement procedures associated with grant management.


11.Provide oversight of the Medicaid reimbursement process.


12.Supervise daily operations associated with payroll and accounts payable.


13.Maintain signatory authority for checks.


14.Provide oversight of GASB 34 and other state/federal compliance issues associated with finance and accounting.


15.Provide management of procurement and assessment of insurance policies.

16.Develop and administer all employee benefits programs.


17.Ensure that all employees follow state and local procurement policies and practices.


18.Provide oversight for the development of all Invitations for Bids and Requests for Proposals.


19.Serve as the chief liaison with the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Budget and Finance.


20.Develop all annual superintendent’s reports for final approval by the superintendent and submit such reports to the Virginia Department of Education.


21.Provide oversight of wage and salary administration.


22.Administer unemployment compensation claims.


23.Provide oversight for the development of employee contracts.

24.Provide oversight for the worker’s compensation program.

25.Provide oversight for the Medicaid budget.


26.Manage the annual designation of a student accident insurance provider.


27.Participate in district level advisory committee meetings.

28.Serve as the superintendent’s designee.

29.Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent





Terms of Employment:


Twelve-month contract with salary to be established annually by the school board.





In accordance with school board policy and the administrative regulations and evaluation of administrative personnel.
