Director of Secondary Instruction

Primary Function:
|
To provide oversight of all regular education instructional programs and curriculum development.
|
|
|
Qualifications:
|
Hold a Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in administration or supervision.
|
|
Have a minimum of five years of experience in public education, two of which in administration.
|
|
Possess professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community at large.
|
|
|

|
Performance Responsibilities:
|
|
|
1.Provide oversight of the implementation, development and publication of the local curriculum.
|
|
2.Provide oversight of the implementation of the Virginia Standards of Learning.
3.Report to the School Board regrading State and Federal Accreditation.
4.Provide leadership for a system of strategic planning for the purposes of school improvement that includes the interpretation of data, the development of a continuous school improvement plan, and monitoring school progress.
5.Coordinate all aspects of the Career and Technical Education Program (CTE).
6.Coordinate the development and implementation of the Perkin’s Grant.
7.Serve as the division’s representative on the Jackson River Technical Center Educational Advisory Committee.
8.Provide oversight of the school counseling program.
9.Provide oversight of the adult education program.

10.Ensure that all instructional programs are in compliance with federal, state and local policies.
11.Serve as the compliance officer in cases involving sexual and/or racial harassment.
|
|
12.Provide oversight of the division’s dual enrollment, early scholar’s and Governor’s School program.
|
|
13.Provide oversight the Project Graduation program.
14.Provide oversight for all alternative education programs.
15.Coordinate the development and implementation of Project Return.
16.Coordinate the development and implementation of the Algebra Readiness program.
17.Coordinate the development and implementation of the Individual Student Alternative Education Program (ISAEP).

18.Provide oversight of the textbook adoption and procurement process.
|
|
19.Develop memoranda of agreements for outsourced instructional programs, including software or other technology platforms.
|
|
20.Coordinate professional development for instructional personnel.
21.Provide oversight of the physical education, health and family life education program.
22.Provide oversight of the English Language Learners’ program.
23.Provide oversight of the library/media program.
24.Assist the Division Director of Testing (DDOT).
25.Assist with the division’s mentoring program.
26.Develop the division staff plan based upon pupil enrollment and instructional requirements.

27.Participate in district level advisory committees.
|
|
28.Serve as a member of the budget development committee.
|
|
29.Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
|
|
|
Terms of Employment:
|
Twelve-month contract with salary to be established annually by the school board.
|
|
|
Evaluation:
|
In accordance with school board policy and the administrative regulations and evaluation of administrative personnel.
|
