Title:                            Supervisor of Instructional Technology and Digital Learning


Primary Function:      The Supervisor of Instructional Technology and Digital Learning is responsible for the overall performance of Instructional Technology including the implementation of division-level technology standards and goals as directed by the Superintendent. The Supervisor provides leadership in technology and instructional utilization and support for administrative, classified, and instructional staff; short and long range planning as required by the school division.


Qualifications:            Eligible for a license as issued by the Virginia Department of Education.  Classroom and administrative experience preferred. Extensive experience in IT, networks, hardware, and software preferred.

Supervises:                 Technology Support Specialist - Secondary

                                      Testing/Technology/Resource/Teachers (TTRT)




  1. Demonstrates an understanding of the administrative and staff functions necessary to the operation of an educational environment and can provide support in a manner that is non-disruptive to that environment.
  2. Assist teachers, and/or administrators in the improvement of instructional performance, digital learning, and online learning; collaborate with instructional staff to coordinate the delivery of services and programs for all students.
  3. Demonstrates a high level of knowledge with school administrative software and data reporting.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge relevant to network testing and data collection including performance analysis at the packet level.
  5. Demonstrates a complete understanding of the E-rate application process.
  6. Responsible for short and long range planning as it applies to emerging technologies and the applications of those technologies to an educational environment.
  7. Assumes the primary responsibility for the oversight of student data reporting systems and the management of these systems.
  8.  Assumes full responsibility for network readiness, load testing, performance data collection and presentation associated with the Virginia Standards of Learning online testing.
  9. Responsible to maintain a high level of training and understanding of emerging technologies and identifying those technologies that could be beneficial.
  10. Assists, upon request, with the preparation of technology related items as they relate to short and long range division budget planning.
  11. Management of the school division’s student management system.
  12. Prepare data for all reporting, including all state and federal reports including, but not limited to Graduation Reports, CRDC, IPALS, MSC, SRC, ADM and Principal’s Monthly Reports.
  13. Serve as an assistant to the Division Director of Testing (DDOT).
  14. Manage the school division’s rapid notification system.
  15. Provide oversight and assistance to the division registrars.
  16. Provide leadership for the division’s Technology Committee, including the 1:1 device initiative. 
  17. Develop, maintain, and communicate the District Technology Plan.
  18. Update and oversee the development of the district web site, and assist school sites with the maintenance of web platforms.
  19. Assess and facilitate the delivery of staff development needs relating to technology use in classrooms and offices throughout the district.
  20. Provide guidance in the selection of textbooks and other instructional resources, including technology hardware, software and equipment relative to diverse learning.
  21. Provide guidance and support to faculty, staff, and administrators for the effective use of the district’s Learning Management System (LMS), and other online learning platforms used within the district.
  22. Maintain and provide management of the district’s LMS and other online learning platforms for the district.
  23. Develop and support professional development for instructional technology and design to aid in the continued professional growth of faculty, staff, and administrators.
  24. Coordinate the uploading and syncing of student, faculty, staff, and administrator data with the district’s LMS, online learning platforms, and other digital platforms used within the district.
  25. Provide guidance on virtual learning programs and processes within the division.
  26. Coordinate with the division’s Testing and Technology Resource Teachers (TTRTs) to provide support to instructional technology support to faculty, staff, administrators, students, and parents.
  27. Oversee district technology use policies.
  28. Coordinate with the Supervisor of Technology Infrastructure and Systems as needed.
  29. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.



Terms of Employment:          Twelve–month contract with salary to be established annually by the school board. FLSA exempt status.


Evaluation:                              In accordance with school board policy and the administrative regulations and evaluation of administrative personnel


Working Conditions:             Demonstrates the ability to lift loads of approximately fifty pounds.

               Demonstrates the ability to work safely on ladders at heights up to   twenty feet.
