In accordance with School Board Policy IIA, a list of sexually-explicit materials used in instruction is maintained here.

At this time, AHPS has not identified any sexually-explicit materials used in instruction.

AHPS understands that some subject matter may include instruction that includes the study of human anatomy in a manner that is unrelated to sexual activity.  Related coursework includes science and health sciences career-technical education (CTE) coursework. Students in the high school forensic science course may discuss sensitive topics as a part of their study of crime. Content is delivered in an age-appropriate manner and in a manner consistent with accessible curriculum, standards of learning (SOLs), competency expectations, and, as appropriate, state regulatory bodies such as the Virginia Board of Nursing.

AHPS continues and will continue to encourage parents and guardians to contact their child's school if they have questions about any assignment, reading material, learning standard, or similar topic for any reason, both reasons related to this policy and for any other reason.

Any parent or guardian wishing to review Family Life Education (FLE) standards should contact their child's school.  Family Life Education is governed by AHPS policy IGAH

The explanatory memo regarding Policy IIA provides additional context.

As of January 2023, Virtual Virginia, a partner in providing certain curriculum digitally, has reviewed its content materials in compliance with relevant Virginia law.

For general questions about instructional materials used in AHPS, please call the AHPS central office at 540.863.1800.
