Vincent Wyatt

Wyatt has spent the past 18 months teaching at Covington Middle School, part of Alleghany Highlands Public Schools, bringing the same discipline and commitment to the classroom that once made him a standout on the track.

A 2014 graduate of Radford University with a degree in communications, Wyatt is considered one of the most decorated athletes in school history. During his time at Radford, he was named an All-American, earned 10 individual titles, and became the first athlete in school history to be honored as the Big South Men’s Track Athlete of the Year. He set a conference record in the 110-meter hurdles (13.60 seconds) and finished sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Radford’s highest-ever placement at the event.

Wyatt continued his education at Western Kentucky University, earning a master’s degree in 2016. While competing for WKU, he broke school records in both the 60-meter hurdles (7.76 seconds) and 110-meter hurdles (13.60 seconds). His performance earned him a Conference USA championship title.

Beyond college athletics, Wyatt reached the semifinals at the USATF National Championships and represented Team USA at the NACAC U23 Championships, further cementing his status as a top-tier competitor.

Following his athletic career, Wyatt transitioned into coaching and athletic administration. He began coaching in 2014 as a volunteer assistant at Radford, then served for three years as an assistant coach at James River High School, where he specialized in sprints and hurdles and also held the role of athletic director. He later became athletic director and track and field coach at Mountain Gateway Community College before joining Alleghany Highlands Public Schools.

Now at Covington Middle School, Wyatt applies his experience and passion to inspire young students to stay physically active, grow stronger, and embrace the value of hard work.

“Coach Wyatt’s induction into the Radford University Athletic Hall of Fame is a reflection of the same excellence and perseverance he brings to Covington Middle School each day. His accomplishments on the track are extraordinary, but it’s his impact in the gym and in the lives of our students that truly defines his legacy. He is a role model of discipline, humility, and heart — and we are incredibly proud to celebrate this well-deserved honor with him,” said CMS Principal Lori Mattson.

Wyatt will be formally inducted into the Radford University Hall of Fame on October 10, alongside four other distinguished honorees.
