Sharon Elementary School third-grade teacher Stephanie Harmon bids farewell to students on the last day of school on June 5. Schools open for the 2024-2025 school year on Aug. 14. ALCOVA Mortgage in Covington is coordinating a school supply drive for students throughout the Highlands. The ALCOVA-4-KIDS School Supply Drive is Aug. 12-16 at the company’s Covington office.

ALCOVA Mortgage is partnering with Alleghany Highlands Public Schools to collect school supplies for students throughout the Alleghany Highlands

The ALCOVA-4-Kids School Supply Drive will be held Aug. 12-16 at its Covington branch office, located at 501 Dolly Ann Dr., near Cucci’s.

Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., the public can drop off school supplies in an Alleghany Highlands Public Schools Division vehicle that will be in ALCOVA’s parking lot. The items will be delivered to AHPS schools and distributed to students throughout the school year. The 2024-2025 school year begins on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The ALCOVA-4-Kids School Supply Drive demonstrates the mortgage company’s long-standing support of public education in the Alleghany Highlands.

“We are excited to partner with AHPS in collecting school materials for children of the Alleghany Highlands. We encourage all businesses to help collect items from their staff and drop them off to maximize these efforts,” said Jason Helmintoller, area branch partner with ALCOVA Mortgage.

“We are honored to have continued efforts from our local business partnerships in regard to the education of our children in the Alleghany Highlands community. What a great place to be!” said Sherman Callahan, director of elementary instruction for Alleghany Highlands Public Schools.

With approximately 2,700 students, AHPS was created when Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Public Schools, and Jackson River Technical Center merged in July 2022. The school division is jointly funded by Alleghany County and the City of Covington.
