“Supporting our staff means supporting our students,” said Principal Cynthia Morgan. “We hope this space sparks creativity, collaboration, and meaningful moments all year long.”

Funded by The Alleghany Foundation, the space goes beyond a typical break room. It promotes team building, professional connections, and emotional wellness, helping boost morale, staff retention, and student success.

In addition to Principal Morgan, Assistant Principal Dee Ann Tickner, Mandy Arritt, Crystal Crookshanks, Shannon Hogan, and Mrs. Tickner's daughter, Gabriella, all helped in the remodeling of the room over the summer.

Teachers say the new lounge has already made them feel appreciated. Third grade teacher Tiffany Gillispie shared, “We are so grateful for this beautiful new teacher lounge. Every detail, from the cozy seating to the inviting decor, makes us feel valued and supported. This is more than just a place to take a break, it’s a reminder that the work we do matters. My personal favorite is the cold diet Dr Pepper stocked in the fridge!”

That sense of gratitude was echoed by fifth grade teacher Meagan Grimes, who added, “The newly renovated workroom is my new favorite place! The ladies in the office did a great job decorating and ensuring that it’s warm and inviting. Also, the fact that it’s stocked with chips doesn’t hurt one bit! It truly creates a welcoming and inspiring environment and I look forward to making full use of it throughout the year.”

First grade teacher Amber McNown summed it up simply: “The new teacher workroom is such a beautiful addition to our school. I appreciate it greatly, and look forward to utilizing the room this year!”

This initiative underscores Alleghany Highlands Public Schools’ commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for both educators and students, made possible through the generous financial support of The Alleghany Foundation. By partnering with valued community organizations like The Alleghany Foundation to invest in teacher and staff well-being, the division is strengthening the foundation for academic achievement and student success throughout the Alleghany Highlands.
