LOW MOOR — Alleghany Highlands Public Schools instructional leaders participated in training to update their understanding of evaluation practices this November and December.
Dr. Rich Hall of Stronge and Associates of Richmond, Virginia, provided the professional development sessions. His visit was sponsored by The Alleghany Foundation at the request of school division leadership.
“We know that robust teacher evaluation helps support student learning and even teacher retention, and we are grateful for this training opportunity for our team,” said Kim Halterman and Melinda Snead-Johnson, leaders of AHPS.
“Dr. Hall’s interactive training with our division leadership using meaningful feedback will better support our teachers as they grow professionally educating our students,” said Fred Vaughan, Director of Human Resources and Pupil Personnel.
The training sessions occurred over two days and emphasized feedback, the use of fair protocols, and actionable steps for progress. All AHPS principals, assistant principals, instructional directors, and superintendents attended as well as Vaughan in his role as human resources director.
“We are so proud of the hard work of our teachers and the support staff who encourage them, including our principals,” said Halterman and Snead-Johnson.
AHPS serves approximately 2,700 students. The school division is jointly funded by Alleghany County and the City of Covington. The school division was formed when Alleghany County Public Schools, Covington City Public Schools, and Jackson River Technical Center merged on July 1, 2022.
