LOW MOOR – Alleghany Highlands Public Schools (AHPS) announces that three local businesses have been selected for recognition on the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Business Honor Roll.

The VSBA Business Honor Roll is a program that allows local school divisions to recognize businesses and organizations that have provided invaluable support to their schools and students.

Following consultation with staff, the Alleghany Highlands School Board has chosen to honor three outstanding local partners. This year, all three businesses have demonstrated exceptional support for student engagement, a key component of the AHPS Strategic Plan.

The honored businesses are:

Jackson River Community Credit Union: Jackson River Community Credit Union has made significant contributions to the curriculum of Alleghany High School’s data science course, a valuable mathematics option for students. AHS Principal Derek Cantrell said, "Jackson River Community Credit Union has played a crucial role in enhancing the curriculum for our data science course, providing valuable real-world insight for our students." Furthermore, Kathleen All, president and CEO of the credit union, delivered an inspiring motivational presentation at the annual AHPS Convocation in August, marking the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year for the AHPS team.

Lytle Realty LLC: Lytle Realty LLC has proven to be a vital partner for the Alleghany High School Small Animal Care Class. This unique class integrates learning with community animal adoption efforts, and Lytle Realty provides essential funding for related needs and adoptions. In a joint statement, instructor Teresa Reed and Dr. Shannon Fuhrman, AHPS Director of Technology and Accountability, praised Lytle Realty owner, broker, and residential appraiser Kathy Lytle, saying, "She is happy to provide funds to help homeless cats and dogs be adopted and to allow our students the opportunity to work with the animals so they are better positioned to be adopted. She is willing to take care of whatever we need to help our students and the animals in our community.”

SJ Neathawk: A dedicated supporter of multiple programs at Jackson River Technical Center (JRTC), SJ Neathawk has formed a particularly strong partnership with the carpentry program. The business consistently donates crucial construction materials, including lumber, for specific student projects. Additionally, SJ Neathawk generously offers discounts on supplies whenever possible for materials used in instruction. JRTC Principal Josh Craft expressed his gratitude, stating, “We appreciate SJ Neathawk so much. They’re a great partner and make the process of conducting business very easy for us.”

The Alleghany Highlands School Board and AHPS administration extend their sincere appreciation to Jackson River Community Credit Union, Lytle Realty LLC, and SJ Neathawk for their invaluable support and commitment to the students and educational programs of Alleghany Highlands Public Schools. Their contributions play a significant role in fostering student engagement and enriching the learning experiences of AHPS students.
