LOW MOOR — Bath Community Hospital, Bath Community Physicians Group, and LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany will be providing free sports physicals to Alleghany Highlands Public Schools Division student-athletes.

The physical is required for students to participate in athletic activities, including the marching band.

Representatives from Bath Community Hospital and Bath Community Physicians Group will be on site in schools in May.  The dates for the physicals are:

  • Alleghany High School, grades 9-11, May 12, May 16.
  •  Clifton Middle School, grades 5-8, May 12, May 16.
  •  Covington High School, grades 8-11, May 17, May 18.
  •  Jeter-Watson Elementary School, grades 5-7, May 17, May 18.

The physicals will be administered during school hours.

In addition, LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany will provide free physicals on Wednesday, June 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. No appointments will be needed. Students should go to the main lobby, and provide a completed Virginia High School League examination form. The form is also required for physicals that will be offered in schools.

Pages 1, 2, and 4 of the Virginia High School League physical examination form must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian in order for Page 3 to be completed by the providers. The form can be downloaded at www.vhsl.org/sports-medicine/physical-examination/.  The page also provides an explanation of VHSL physical examination requirements.

If a student received a physical prior to May 1, 2023, that physical will expire on June 30, 2023, requiring the student to undergo another physical for the 2023-2024 school year. Physicals received after May 1 will not expire until June 30, 2024, and the physical will be current for the 2023-2024 school year.

Parents with questions can contact the school their student attends. Parents with questions about the physicals being offered by LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany on June 7 should contact Erin Haynes at (540) 862-6223.
